About The Sense and Sensibility Collection

The Sense and Sensibility Collection contains Austen's first publishednovel, "Sense and Sensibility" (1811), "Mansfield Park"published in 1814, and "Emma" published in 1816. All three werepublished anonymously as befitted a young woman of her class.1995 was a banner year for Jane Austen movie adaptations: Emma Thompsonreceived the Academy Award for her screenplay of "Sense andSensibility" starring Thompson, Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet, and directed by"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's" Ang Lee. That same year saw two"Emma" movies -- "Emma" starring Gwyneth Paltrow and JeremyNortham, and Amy Herckerling's hilarious "Clueless" starring AliciaSilverstone and Brittany Murphy. In 1999, "Mansfield Park" was madeinto a movie starring Jonny Lee Miller and Frances O''Connor. "Sense and Sensibility" is the story of the well-born butimpoverished Dashwood sisters and their attempt to find true love. In"Mansfield Park" poor girl Fanny Price is taken into a distantrelative's home where she falls hard for young Edmund, who unfortunately hasfeelings for the shallow Mary Crawford. And "Emma" is the eponymousstory of a wealthy, self-satisfied young woman who is determined to playmatchmaker to everyone around her."Oh,Elinor, it is Willoughby, indeed it is!" and seemed almost ready
to throw herself into his arms, when Colonel Brandon appeared."
Sense and Sensibility
Jane AustenConsidered the mother of the modern English novel, Jane Austen hardly everleft her house. The seventh child of a country rector, she was born inthe tiny English village of Basingstoke in 1775 and, following a brief stint in Bath, theAusten  family settled in the village of Chawton where Jane lived out therest of her life. She died in 1817 at age 42 after contracting tuberculosis. Austen wrote about what she knew best - minor landedgentry in varying economic circumstances and struggling to maintain or enhance theirsocial standing. While all her heroes and heroines were preoccupied with courtshipand marriage, Austen herself never married. To read this eBook collection on your Palm, you must first have an eBook reader installed.
