About DaCapo

DaCapo is a metronome application conforming to classicalmetronome layout and its settings. This makes it very usablefor classical training, classroom situations and any flavor ofmodern music. It painstakingly reproduces the range of theclassical metronome, but also offers settings by tempo inItalian, e.g. moderato. Since this application runs on ahandheld device with a touchscreen, much attention has beenpaid to one-handed usability, as a player might have a bow orplectrum in the other hand. Big buttons and a very simple mainscreen are the result. Easily available from the main screenare a start/stop button, a tuning pitch button and five fullyconfigurable presets.On devices with image support (i.e. Treos) the background for the application can now show a user defined graphic like a band logo. To graphically better support this the interface is color neutral.Under the surface DaCapo offers many very advancedpossibilities that are implemented using technology notavailable to the classical gravity driven metronome or eventhe quartz metronomes that appeared in the late 80s. DaCapocan play sampled sounds on most current devices. These areactual drum samples that can be configured in different wayslike song forms. Song forms are important for the musicianpracticing current music forms like Rock, Blues, Jazz,Country, Folk, Rap and many more. With DaCapo one has theability to not only mark the beat, but also the measure andthe form of a particular piece of music and the applicationincludes a song form wizard that can pre-select common songforms like the Blues Form, ABA, AABA, etc. This can be donefor each of the presets individually and if the wizard doesn’tprovide what is needed, one can customize a song form to hisor her needs.Another nice touch is the tap input capability. This allowsfor tapping along with a song and determining the bpm (beatsper measure) the song is played in. One can then decide toload a preset with that information and utilize it forpracticing. DaCapo has been adopted by lots of musicians,music students, high schools, universities and just plainmusic enthusiasts as the best choice of a metronome that youcan carry with you.
